Overview:

The Polymer Plant Production Manager role is accountable for ensuring that the Polymer Plant is operated to its Safety, Quality and Operational capability. This role requires the direct line management of the Plant Leader and the Plant Technical Chemists.

The Production Manager role requires on-plant visibility with a focus on driving operational standards and ensuring adherence to the safe systems of work.

The Production Manager has a responsibility for driving the continuous improvements programs within the Polymer Plant including the execution of the Operating Model and Operational Excellence developments. The role may require taking the lead on the execution of projects.

The Production Manager has responsibility for setting the operational budget for the Polymer Plant and tracking spend throughout the budget year. The role also requires attendance in Capex planning meetings to ensure that the Polymer plant requirements are reviewed.

The role requires effective collaboration with other functional managers in areas of safety, technical support, maintenance, quality, planning, D5 production, customer service, and Local HR. The role also requires effective collaboration across other Mylar and Celanese operational sites.

This role reports to the Site & Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:

Safety:

  • Provide safety leadership and guidance to Polymer Plant Operation team.
  • Lead Polymer Plant safety incident inquiries.
  • Responsible for Polymer Plant PI ownership, review process, and improvement actions.
  • Responsible for Lead Operator / Shift Supervisor PTW training and adherence to standards.

Resource management:

  • Ensure the Polymer Plant has suitably trained operators to safely operate to the required performance targets.
  • Work with Site & Operations Manager to define and deliver the asset improvement plan (operational/human) to ensure the line has the capabilities to meet current and future business expectations.
  • Responsible for operator recruitment and training including skills gap analysis.
  • Manage process for operator progression including criteria for promotion and progression stages.
  • Accountable for asset lost time for lack of operations resource.
  • Responsible for Polymer Plant operator working time management including banked time tracking.

Operational standards and leadership

  • Responsible for Polymer Plant standards and housekeeping.
  • Provide clear and visible leadership to ensure operational standards are consistently aligned with the Mylar values and behaviours.
  • Lead continuous improvement opportunities for Polymer Plant operations including 5S.
  • Ensure appropriate data are recorded, analysed, and communicated to facilitate handover/troubleshooting.
  • Develop operator asset care and ownership for equipment and plant condition.

Performance:

  • Consult with Site & Operations Manager to align on the annual Polymer Plant KPI’s.
  • Develop and implement meaningful shift team operational KPI’s for Safety, Quality and Reliability to drive shift team performance.
  • Undertake specific improvement projects and apply the outcomes uniformly across the shifts to optimise performance.

People management processes:

  • Apply performance management processes across the shift teams to deliver the best possible outcome in terms of personal development as well as output, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership and development of the employee relations function for the Polymer Plant Operations team.
  • Actively seek opportunities for individual and team professional development.

Training & development:

 

  • Identify skills gap analysis for the Polymer Plant Operations team and manage through the Training, Learning & Development database.
  • Lead Team training and development.
  • Be coach and mentor to the Polymer Plant Operations team.

 

Others:

  • Responsible for cost management of Polymer Plant operations.
  • Management of shift card and working time agreement.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as Production Manager in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to strong safety performance.
  • Ability to manage resources, schedules, and priorities within a chemical production environment.
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to influence behaviours and build trust across teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels of the organisation.
